WHAT IS MEMBERSHIP?
Second Presbyterian Church's Identity Statement
Church membership is not affiliation; belonging to a church just as one might belong to a club or political party. Church membership is belonging to a body, a body of flawed people striving to be a body of Christ in the world.
A healthy church will nourish its members through worship, study, prayer, and fellowship; but then serve the world through a witness to God's grace. Breathe in God's grace, breathe out God's love; F. Dale Bruner calls it "the respiratory system of faith."
At Second Presbyterian Church, we want to make a difference in the world through our shared witness. To that end, we call on every member who is able to:
worship, study and pray regularly;
and make a witness to Christ by
living ethically,
giving generously,
and serving sacrificially.
