Saturday: Closed | Sunday: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
When are worship services held?
During the program year (September – May), worship is held on Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary at 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
During the summer (Memorial Day – Labor Day), worship is held at 10:0 a.m. in the Sanctuary.
Alternative midweek Kairos services are held on occasion throughout the year, usually in Kirk Hall and are casual in nature.
Where do I go?
Parking is available in the lot on Mountain Avenue, and at various places around the church. Enter through the handicap-accessible Portico Entrance in the Mountain Avenue lot.
As you enter the building, the Sanctuary and Chapel are located on the main floor. The Sanctuary is to the right through Kirk Hall, and the Chapel is to the right as you enter the sliding glass doors.
Childcare for infants through preschool is offered year-round, and is located on the main floor to the left through Kirk Hall.
Sunday School (September through May) classrooms for kindergarten through fifth grade are located on the top floor (take the elevator to floor 3). Middle and high school students meet in the The Intersection, which is a house directly across the street from the Sanctuary, at the corner of Highland Avenue and 3rd Street.
Adult education classes are held in various rooms throughout the church school year Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. Greeters are happy to assist you in finding a class.
What do I wear?
You can wear whatever you are comfortable wearing to services at Second. Morning worship tends to be dressier than midweek Kairos worship, which is casual, “come as you are” service. One member told her teenage sons that appropriate attire for Sunday morning was “a shirt with a collar.” That said, we are more interested in YOU than what you wear!
Is there someone who will meet me when I enter?
Every Sunday we have members who serve as greeters, and will answer your questions and help you find your way to Sunday School rooms or the Sanctuary. Our Engagement Coordinator is usually present at the parking lot entrance, as well, and she pays special attention to visitors and new members. We’re a large church, so please identify yourself as a visitor so that we will be sure to welcome you warmly! In addition, visitor information is available at the visitor stations at both the parking lot and Sanctuary entrances.
If you enter through the parking lot entrance, greeters will encourage you to continue forward into Kirk Hall where members congregate during Meet & Greet (9:30 – 9:55 a.m.) for refreshments and to socialize with each other prior to Sunday School. We welcome the chance to get to know you!
What about my kids during the worship service?
We welcome family worship at all of our services, but if you would like to take advantage of our excellent childcare opportunities, we provide designated, child-friendly nursery rooms for infant through preschool age. Children are nurtured physically, emotionally, and spiritually by trained caregivers. Special attention is given to individual needs, and our childcare is available for all services.
During the Sunday School year (September through May), children ages pre-K through first grade enjoy their own special time of worship and wonder at CWW. Following the Children’s Time during the 11:00 a.m. worship service, children are excused to the CWW worship space on the third floor. They learn the stories of our faith and worship God in a setting and style geared toward their needs and stages of development. Biblical stories are told in the context of a worship experience that includes singing, response time, and “the feast.” We hope this will nurture their innate sense of wonder, as they develop a sense of awe and reverence for worship.
What Sunday School classes are available?
Growing together in faith is a mission at Second Presbyterian Church. Sunday School is held September through May from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. (beginning Sept. 8, 2024). The best way to find out what’s going on in adult education is to attend our Rally Day Fall Kickoff, visit the church website for up-to-date information on all of our classes, or talk to a pastor. There is also a Christian Education brochure available in the church office or by request, which lists classes, content, and location.
*View the 2024-25 Christian Education Booklet for details about educational opportunities for all ages!
